American conservatives give credit for the Cold War's end to Ronald Reagan, but both Reagan and Gorbachev played big roles in ending the Cold War. Gorbachev was the fourth Soviet leader during Reagan's presidency. Relations between the two countries were extremely tense before he assumed power in 1985.

Ronald Reagan always heavily criticized the Soviet Union and offered support to anti-communist opposition in central Europe as a way to weaken the Soviets. Reagan trained, equipped and lead many forces against the Soviet Army, which helped to end the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan.

Gorbachev also was responsible for the end of the Cold War, he needed support to lift the Soviet’s economy and found in Reagan an ally. Gorbachev made a series of reforms such as the Perestroika that allowed open market forces to be introduced in the Soviet economy.

With that, the Detente policy was able to be imposed, it meant that tensions were relaxed. The Nuclear non-proliferation Treaty, the Helsinki Accords were signed.

Minority groups and women contributed to WWI abroad in the following ways. This contribution impacted life for them at home in America too,

Minority groups and women could join the armed forces.

Women were hired to do jobs traditionally done by men because men joined the armed forces and had to go to Europe to fight in the war front. Women and other minority groups filled those vacancies in the fabrics to still producing weapons and the war supplies needed to send to the battlefield.

Of course, this facilitated minority individuals to find jobs more easily in different industries. Historians consider that approximately one million African American soldiers fought.

So the participation of the United States in World War I opened the opportunity to women and minority groups that had been relegated by the US industry in the previous years of the war.
