He made 12 extra dollars.

To solve this I turned the 110% into a decimal.

So I divided 110 by 100 and got 1.1

In order to find the original number you would then need to divide the total cost of the bicycle and helmet together by 1.1

So, 116 + 16 = 132

132/1.1= 120
