One reason many African American leaders opposed the Vietnam war was that they felt that too many African Americans were fighting and dying in this war. By the end of the Vietnam War, more than 60,000 American soldiers had lost their lives. A disproportionate number of this were African Americans.

One reason many African-American leaders opposed the Vietnam War was that the war caused the death of a large number of African American soldiers.

Explanation:

The Vietnam War took place between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. The duration of the Vietnam War was from 1st November 1955 to 30th April 1975.  About 58,000 Americans soldiers were killed during the war and more than 2,000 went missing.  Due to these deaths, the American people and a number of African-American leaders protested against the US government as they felt that a large number of African-Americans were fighting and dying in the Vietnam War.

Further Explanation:

The Vietnam War was fought during the period of Cold War between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. The Vietnam War lasted from 1st November, 1955 to 30th April, 1975.  The cause of the conflict of Vietnam War was the de-sire of North Vietnam to unify North Vietnam and South Vietnam and form a communist government. While the South Vietnam government fought to preserve from communist ideology.

The active war began in 1965 and America deployed more than 500000 army perso-nnel in Vietnam by 1969. On the other hand, China and USSR provided troops to North Vietnam in the war against the South Vietnam. Due to the rising cost of war and the death of soldiers, the American people started opposing this war. After which some African-American leaders also started opposing it. These protests became difficult for the U.S. government. So by 1973, all the US troops were withdrawn, after which North Vietnam defeated South Vietnam in 1975.
