Pitt was named the Secretary of State in 1757 and targetted the French in Europe and North Americas. He wanted to exhaust all resources for this task and even provided funding to Prussia to target and tie down the French in Europe. He also made an army of 50,000 men that were in North America to combat the French in New France, note the number matched the entire population of New France. However, the King of England refused to go to a full out war against France and Pitt ended up resigning.ย

Pitt became Prime Minister in 1766 and sympathized with the Americans against their stance on the Stamp Act. He worked to try to reconcile the two, America and Britain but was unsuccessful.ย
