Hello there! could someone me? how does being “sticky” aid in cohesion and adhesion?

Stickiness of water makes the water molecules bind to another water molecule (cohesion) as well as non-water material (adhesion). This is due to the hydrogen bonding. Hydrogen bonding is an attractive force between hydrogen atom (already bounded to oxygen, nitrogen or flourine) and another electronegative atom. This force makes the water molecules sticky.

Let's take an example in which water is present in a drinking glass (made up of glass). The example of each category could be,

Example of cohesion: Water molecule attracted to water molecule.

Example of adhesion: Water molecules attracted to another substance such as glass surface.
